Abdelali Laamari

Engineer in agronomy, MsC degree in Agricultural Economics from Hassan II Agronomy and Veterinary Institute and got a PhD in Economics from the University Hassan 1st. He has worked for the USAID for five year as agricultural economist researcher within MIAC Project. He joined the National Institute for Agricultural Research in 1993. He is member of Moroccan Association for Agricultural Economics and The International Association for Impact Assessment. As a head of Socioeconomic Research Department (1996-2003) he was in charge of organizing research and contributed to identify research funds opportunities. During this period he has participated to different EU research calls and got funds from IDRC projects. He has contributed to the training program for Master Students in Economics. Laamari contributed in a book titled Natural Resources Management Technologies in Crop-Livestock Production Systems in Arid and Semi-Arid Areas. He was leading many projects on climate change adaptation mechanisms and farmers’ resilience and vulnerability. He has established a good research network within the country and around Europe and other continent. He is now involved in a Master training program on fertilizer bio-sciences at UM6P and a capacity building program of OCP human resources.
Since 1986, Laamari and different researchers have started a research program on risk and adaptation to drought in Morocco. Research on risk behavior and appropriate technical and policy options for Abda and Chaouia regions was launched. In 1993, a national research program on drought impact assessment was conducted in Morocco involving different disciplines. In 2007, IDRC has funded a project on climate change adaptation mechanisms in Morocco and I was in charge of the socioeconomic studies. The collaborative research program of CGIAR launched a program on system vulnerability (Dry DS system) and I was in charge of characterizing the production system. I was designated by FAO to be member of the team from IPC (Inclusive policy center) in Brasilia in charge of the capacity building of the Moroccan team. Also I did a consultancy on poverty and climate change in Morocco for IPC in 2017. As a member of INGSA, Laamari received a grant for a project on bridging policy and research on water governance in agriculture in 2018. In 2021, Laamari was selected a s a member of the national committee on vulnerability and rural development in Morocco.
